How It All Started – and Our First Workshop on Mental Health and Wellbeing
We are delighted to share a thoughtful piece written by Dr. Angeliki (Tzelika) Zoumpouli, Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Psychotherapist, with over 15 years of clinical experience. She has been an important part of our school community, and in her article she reflects on how the Bromley Greek School began as more than just a place for learning the Greek language. It has grown into a space that fosters awareness, cultural connection, and personal growth.
Over the past two years, we have been weaving a new area into our school — one that focuses on supporting not only our students, but also parents, carers, teachers, and the wider community. This vision goes beyond language learning, helping us to nurture wellbeing, creativity, and a deeper sense of connection.

In November 2024, we held our first workshop under this initiative: “Interactive Workshop / Discussion with Coffee and Biscuits for Mental Health and Wellbeing of Parents in Difficult and Busy Periods of Life: An Introduction to Self-Awareness, Psychodynamic Theory and Self-Compassion.” The session included breathing exercises, psychodynamic insights, role play co-facilitated by Dr. Vanio Papadeli and Dr. Angeliki (Tzelika) Zoumpouli, journaling, and reflection. It was a powerful beginning, reminding us how important it is to create spaces of support and awareness for the whole community.
We are excited to continue sharing more about this new chapter through a dedicated space we’re calling “Beyond the School Bell.” Here, we’ll post reflections, updates, and stories that show how our community continues to grow together in meaningful ways.

Dr. Zoumpouli is such a unique person in the way she sees her initiative not only as a contribution, but as a responsibility to support both the school and the people within it. She reminds us of the importance of everyone offering something — however small or large — to support community initiatives. She is a true example of Giving Back: a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Psychotherapist with 15 years of clinical experience, yet still finding the time to volunteer, organise, and inspire. Her generosity, vision, and dedication set a standard for us all. We are forever grateful.

With deep appreciation, we thank Dr. Angeliki Zoumpouli and everyone in our community who is helping us create a school that goes beyond the classroom and supports the whole family. This is just the beginning — in the months ahead, we will be sharing more stories about the workshops, initiatives, and reflections that are shaping Beyond the School Bell.
